Daily Devotion for July 13th, 2020

Ecclesiastes 1:13b-15 I soon discovered that GOD has dealt a tragic existence to the human race. Everything under the sun is meaningless, like chasing the wind. What is wrong cannot be righted. What is missing cannot be recovered.

Ecclesiastes 3:10 I have seen the burden GOD has placed on us all.

Life can be pretty hard. It's been that way for a while...a long while. The last time it was “blissful” or “easy” was way back before Eve took that bite...one pride-filled, folly-filled moment and the future (our “now”) was forever changed. We were meant to live in that garden. We were meant to walk there with the FATHER in unbroken fellowship...but GOD wanted us to “choose” HIS ways over our own, and we blew it. We all would have blown it (Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 3:23). As a result of sin entering into the world so long ago through Adam, “sin entered the entire human race. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned” (Romans 5:12).

I don't think we can truly grasp how far we've fallen, how bad the world is now, because this existence is all we've known – we've never tasted anything different. But, oh, how hard it must have been for Adam and Eve to taste the “before” and “after” affects of their sin! They lived the “before” in perfect fellowship with their CREATOR, with all creation living in perfect blissful harmony with GOD. How amazing and wonderful that state must have been! How horrifying to have lost it! We, on the other hand, have only tasted the “after:” The fallen state of this hurting, groaning world. Our lives are peppered with joy....AND pain, doubt, suffering, disease, loss, tragedy, death, and so many unanswered questions...

And so we groan...not only us, but the whole creation! When we fell, everything else suffered! “For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time” (Romans 8:22). Creation groans because it was not meant to be like this...life wasn't meant to be this pain-filled rocky life we exist in. We were meant to walk in fellowship with our CREATOR in a garden beyond our wildest dreams, in a garden filled with delicious food, where lions and lambs existed in peace together. To that, friends, we can't go back...

But praise GOD...we can look forward to our future! “ALL creation anticipates the day when it will join GOD's children in glorious freedom from death and decay” (Romans 8:21). “Garden living” is coming again! We and all of creation are waiting for the final curtain to rise...for the final act to begin and end all this sin-caused suffering. The HOLY SPIRIT within us reminds us that future glory is ahead! One day we will be released from pain and suffering! We “wait anxiously for that day when GOD will give us our full rights as HIS children, including the new bodies HE has promised us. Now that we are saved, we eagerly look forward to this freedom (this return to the paradise state we were meant to live in). For if you already have something, you don't need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don't have yet, we must wait patiently and confidently”(Romans 8:23-25).

We hope, folks, because this is not our home! “What we suffer now is nothing (NOTHING!) compared to the glory HE will give us later” (Romans 8:18). That's GOD's Word, folks! HE doesn't lie! Better stuff is on the horizon! “That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying,” though our circumstances seem grim, though our life might be filled with pain, though we seem to have lost so much, “our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are quite small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! So we don't look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). Our KING will come again! “And when CHRIST, who is your real LIFE, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all HIS glory” (Colossians 3:4).

Praise GOD! The final curtain is GOING to rise! JESUS is returning! We (HIS dearly loved and adopted children) WILL be going “home” because “GOD has given us the privilege of being born again. Now we live with a wonderful expectation because JESUS CHRIST rose again from the dead. For GOD has reserved a priceless inheritance for HIS children. It is kept in heaven for you (NOT HERE!!! Stuff here is trash and ROTS!!!), pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And GOD, in HIS mighty power, will protect you until you receive this salvation, because you are trusting HIM. It will be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad!!! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while” (1 Peter 1:3b-6).

What you and I face today, what we've lost, how we've hurt...it’s temporary. It will soon be over!!! We are NOT yet home! Praise GOD! Today may the LORD give you a skip in your step and a song of joy in your heart....we can't even imagine what HE's got in store for us when we see His SON face to face... AMEN!!!!
