Daily Devotion for July 10th, 2020

Ephesians 1:1-2 This letter is from Paul, chosen by GOD to be an apostle of CHRIST JESUS. It is written to GOD's holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful followers of CHRIST JESUS.

May grace and peace by yours, sent to you from GOD our FATHER and JESUS CHRIST our LORD.

You know, I usually skim over the New Testament letter introductions so I can get right to the “meat.” But in doing so, I've been missing stuff! These first three sentences of Ephesians are loaded! Let's take a look...

  1. Paul says in verse one of Ephesians that he was “chosen” to be an apostle of CHRIST JESUS. Friends, if we have accepted JESUS CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOR, then we have been chosen by JESUS as well! What were you chosen for? Ask GOD to help you understand...look around through HIS eyes, see where HE has placed you, and ask HIM to reveal to you why you are “there.” There is a reason....GOD has chosen you and placed you right where you are so you can reach out to the lost and hurting people for your own unique way! Are you doing that? Could you be doing it better? After all, you were chosen!
  2. “It is written to GOD's holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful followers of CHRIST JESUS” (Ephesians 1:1b). Paul refers to the believing Ephesians as “holy” and “faithful.” Brother, sister, are you living a holy life? Can others say that about you? Does your life reflect the holiness of the LORD? How about the “faithful” part? Are you faithfully following your SHEPHERD or are you wandering away, doing your own “thing?” Fellow believers and unbelievers alike should be able to recognize your holiness and faithfulness to GOD in the way you live...What do you need to ask JESUS to change in you so you can better reflect HIS holiness, HIS faithfulness?
  3. “May grace and peace by yours, sent to you from GOD our FATHER and JESUS CHRIST our LORD” (Ephesians 1:2). Do you have GOD's grace? Are you allowing the HOLY SPIRIT to transform you and make you beautiful from the inside out? In the HOLY SPIRIT's strength, are you able to forgive your brothers and sisters of the “little stuff” and just “let it go?” GOD is sooo gracious and kind to us—we should be reflecting that! We can have that...if we willingly allow GOD to help us “let stuff go” and let the HOLY SPIRIT transform us into the kind and forgiving people GOD calls us to be!
  4. How about the “peace” part? Do you have GOD's peace? That peace (inexplicable inner contentment, perfect serenity, a mental state free of strife) can only be gained through a close walk with the SON, and can only be gained by letting “CHRIST rule in your hearts” (Colossians 3:15). So are you kicking yourself out of the driver's seat and letting JESUShave the steering wheel? You don't have to be afraid of where HE's taking you! JESUS is the perfect driver!

LORD, we lift our unworthy hands to YOU today. Thank YOU for choosing us, so long ago (before the world began!). Show us what we've been chosen for! Do what you have to do in our lives so that we can better reflect YOUR holiness and faithfulness to a lost and hurting world. Make us (through the Mighty HOLY SPIRIT!) into the gracious people YOU have called us to be, filled with YOUR peace because we have allowed YOU to “rule in our hearts”...AMEN!
